Driving Tests and London Olympics 2012

If you live in London, then you will be aware that the Summer olympics will be taking place between 27 July to 12 August and 29 August to 9 September (Paralympics) 2012.
What a lot of learner drivers might not be considering, is the effect that this global event will have on lessons and many driving tests especially in east London.
Apart from the increased number of cars expected on the roads, there will be road closures for many events as well as restrictions (olympic lanes), all of these will mean that instructors and the DSA have to make plans to reduce the impact of the games on their business and tests.

Accordingly the DSA has announced that it has put in place a few measures to ensure that driving tests can continue in many parts of London where it is expected that the London olympics 2012 might affect examiners carrying out practical assessments for motorcycles, cars and HGV/LGVs.

Driving Test Centres in London Expected to be affected by London Olympics 2012

Barking Belvedere Chingford Dorchester Enfield MPTC Erith Goodmayes Hayes Hornchurch Hendon Hither Green Loughton Mill Hill Slough Southall Wanstead Wood Green

LGV Centres Affected
Enfield Purfleet Yeading

Please note that no theory test centres will be affected during this period

Most of the centres listed above will run fewer driving tests during the duration of these olympic games, with DSA examiners being a little more forgiving if a candidate does not arrive on time or is running late. Module 2 motorcycle tests will run reduced programmes, but Module 1 will remain unchanged.
The DSA has warned that there might be short notice cancellations due to congestion and have allocated some slots in september to ensure these can be rebooked as soon as possible.

While it might be advisable to book your driving test in some of the other places not affected by the olympics, note that summer is usually the busiest time for DSA examiners, and this year will have the added pressure of the olympics increasing demand in such centres so book early, and be prepared to pass first time.
